Family Conflict/Family of Origin Issues/Cultural Influences
We are all impacted by our family of origin, i.e., the family we grew up with. If you were lucky enough to have a relatively healthy family, good for you! However, unhealthy families can wreak havoc on our childhood/adolescence/adulthood, especially if we maintain frequent contact with them into adulthood. Cultural influences tend to amplify dysfunction, particularly for the generation that is trying to acculturate. Self-advocacy, boundaries and trauma work are all explored in depth with this focus.
Relationship Issues/Break-ups/Transitions
Struggling through relationships issues, break-ups/transitions alone is so, so hard. The same thoughts roll around the inside of your head on repeat. These are some deep rabbit holes. All of the could’ve, should’ve, would’ves. A fresh perspective to gently support you in moving forward and becoming more empowered and a better self-advocate is what you need if you’re struggling in this area.
Loved Ones of Those With a Personality Disorder
Conversations that don’t go anywhere. Changes that don’t last. Unpredictable and volatile behaviors where you’re inevitably the “bad guy.” Charismatic people that go dark at the drop of a dime. When things are good, they are so good. When they’re bad, it’s dark and vengeful and manipulative. Loving someone with a personality disorder is a really tough thing. Whether you’re considering the future of your relationship or trying to work on it, I can help you sort it out.
Addiction/Substance Abuse (Individual or loved One)
Addiction is one of the most difficult battles you’ll ever fight. Getting sober and maintaining it will be even harder. But it’s possible and it’s always worth it. Ask yourself how well what you’re currently doing is working…
Loving someone who struggles with addiction is a hard thing. Every area of a person’s life is impacted by substance abuse and this inevitably impacts you. Many people need help developing and maintaining boundaries with the person struggling with addiction, as well as ongoing support.
Other areas of Experience:
My experience as a clinician also covers Depressive Disorders, Anxiety Disorders and Trauma/PTSD. Many of these issues co-occur with those listed above. Whatever you’re struggling with, we’ll make sense of it.
