Good Chat Therapy

A Good Chat with a seasoned therapist can help in different ways than a chat with a family member or friend. I am trained to listen differently and offer feedback that is unbiased, non-judgmental and applicable to daily living.

You're here because you have something to work on and you know it.

I am different from other therapists because my approach focuses on identifying what's holding you back from being truly happy and coming up with a plan, together, for what to do about it. My goal is to be your advocate while working together in an informal and supportive therapeutic environment. Humor is integral to my work with a client. My treatment modality depends on the client’s needs. Life is hard enough, being stuffy and overly clinical is just not the best way to tackle issues (in my opinion).

My Specialties

  • Family Conflict

We are all impacted by our family of origin, i.e., the family we grew up with.

  • Addiction

Addiction is one of the most difficult battles you’ll ever fight.

  • Relationship Issues

Struggling through relationships issues, break-ups/transitions alone is so, so hard.

  • Loved Ones With Personality Disorders

Loving someone with a personality disorder is a really tough thing.

Got a question?

  • Well, that includes several factors. I’ve had client’s for years and client’s for a few months. Generally, the first 6-8 sessions is what we call “information gathering.” We get to know each other and how the therapeutic process works, all while setting up initial goals. I like to think that it’s less about how long you’re in therapy, but how long therapy feels helpful/productive/supportive.

  • You’re not just paying for my skill-set, you’re also paying for my experience and for the time and space to be entirely you collaborating with and utilizing tools provided by said therapist to work on your struggles. You’re worth the investment. *Actually, as far as industry standards go, I’m pretty moderately priced.

  • LOTS of reasons! One, you may not feel as though you can tell a friend or family member everything. Most of us fear some level of judgement, even with someone we love and that results in withholding, the same can be said for the loved one. They are more likely to hold back for fear or hurting your feelings. I however, am not afraid of that. While my confrontation is always gentle and appropriate, I use it when necessary to aid you in moving forward – whatever forward means for your identified goals. I’m also trained to listen differently. To spot themes and dysfunctional thought patterns that are holding you back. And, while I do use personal examples on occasion, our time together is ALL about you. There is real freedom in not feeling obligated to check in with me as you would a loved one. We focus on YOU.

Hello. I’m Veronica.

I enjoy working with clients who are ready for change. Those who know something isn't right, but don't know how to approach it. With 15 years of experience, I most enjoy helping clients struggling with family of origin issues (particularly when culture is a factor), those navigating through loving someone with a personality disorder as well as relationship issues. I am also a certified alcohol and drug abuse counselor. I'm not going to be salesy. I'm here because I'm a talented therapist that really enjoys helping people achieve their goals and becoming happier humans. You're here because you have something to work on and you know it. Is now the time? Am I the therapist to help? Please feel free to reach out with questions, not just to make an appointment.

Testimonials

  • "I found Veronica in 2015 when I reached out for help to address some problematic drinking as well as some trauma from my past. As a result of my work with her, I took sobriety seriously for the first time in my life. In addition to giving up alcohol, Veronica helped me to explore different possibilities for repurposing trauma from my youth that had haunted me for years and far into adulthood. One of those possibilities was going to law school with the aim of helping wrongfully convicted prisoners. So, at the age of 36 I chose to change careers and to begin law school as a way of therapeutically addressing my PTSD. In 2018 I began law school. Currently, I am an Associate State's Attorney for one of the surrounding counties outside of the Chicagoland area and am so excited for the possibilities that my education, training, and work have opened up for me. While I realize that I made these choices, took the steps, and put in the work to remain sober from alcohol and pursue my dreams, I also realize that Veronica has played a huge role in helping me to address past trauma in an empowering way. I am truly grateful for having had Veronica as a therapist and do not believe I would be where I am today without calling her up and making an appointment with her 7 years ago!”

  • “I've been seeing Veronica for over four years now. Through our sessions, I've been able to gradually work through childhood/family trauma and issues with self-esteem and codependency. Veronica has always been a pleasure to work with -- she brings a professional, yet relatable and understanding attitude to all our sessions. I've also appreciated her ability to make and verbalize the connections she sees, which has allowed me to better understand the connections between my past and current experiences. Our work together has really helped me identify unhealthy thought patterns, be more genuine to myself and gain comfort in expressing myself more fully.”

  • "Well, I'm celebrating the longest relationship I've had outside of my ex-husband. Veronica is amazing. Ten years ago I walked into her office, thinking I've always been the person who can "figure things out for myself" and "I'm smart enough, I can do this by myself" only to realize I was neither of those statements. Veronica was patient and took the time to listen and learn before unpacking my baggage. She took someone who didn't realize she was broken and worked to provide the tools she needed to rebuild her life. I respect her because she supports me but even more importantly, she holds me accountable and calls me out on my nonsense - and make no mistake - she calls out nonsense. If you decide to work with Veronica, know you will be cared for, supported, and held accountable for your actions. Her approach will help you work through some of life's most complicated issues thoughtfully and professionally and (believe it or not) you'll have more fun than you realize doing it. She is more important to me than any other healthcare professional in my life. If you're looking for a person to be a part of your whole-person healthcare team - you will not find anybody better than Veronica to help you connect your body and mind in a productive way to move forward. • "Veronica has been there with me through many of life's hardships. She's a source of positivity and humor that makes it easy to feel comfortable opening up to her about complex topics. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, Veronica has only ever met me with kindness, compassion, and acceptance. She pushes me to challenge my thinking and holds me accountable to myself. With Veronica's help, I continue to grow into the person I've always wanted to be, and I couldn't be more thankful."

  • "I have been working with Veronica Heitz for multiple years and highly recommend her. I believe that one of her strengths is the natural aptitude she has for understanding her clients’ personality and tailoring a therapeutic plan based on those needs. In fact, I returned to her after an absence because of my comfort level with her safe and therapeutic approach. She gives me the space and time to trust her, so that I can grow in my self- awareness and develop my own problem-solving process. Veronica’s style of combining her therapeutic knowledge with humor, kindness and logic is wonderful. Working with Veronica has been a true gift in my life!"
